Serpentine wedding tables: how many people fit?
How many people fit at a serpentine table? It depends mainly on the radius, the arc, and whether the seats go on one side or both.
What a serpentine table is
It is a curved table, shaped like a slice of a ring. On its own it draws a gentle curve; joined to others it makes waves, wider curves, S shapes or complete circles.
There is no universal size for serpentine tables. Radii, arcs, top widths and joining systems vary from one manufacturer to the next — always ask for the spec sheet before you count seats.
What the seat count depends on
On a curved table the outer edge is longer than the inner one. That is why more people fit on the outside than on the inside, and the gap widens as the curve tightens.
As a planning reference, allow about 60 cm of table per person. It is a working figure, not a rule: plated service sometimes squeezes tighter, and family-style dinners need more.
How to estimate capacity
To see how the arithmetic works, let us take a table of 3.75 m radius and 60° as an example. In practice sizes and shapes vary a good deal between suppliers. At that size you get roughly 7 seats on the outside alone, or 11 if you also seat the inside.

These figures are estimates for planning purposes. Real capacity depends on the dimensions of the table, the width of the top, the model used and the space allowed for each guest.
One side or both?
In an open arrangement you can use both sides of the table. In a closed composition, where the seats go should follow the shape you have created and what you want it to do.
A circle around a tree or a dance floor is usually seated on the outside only, so nobody has their back to the middle. But there are closed compositions where the inside is exactly the interesting place to sit — it depends on what the shape is doing.
How many tables you need
Some suppliers work with independent modules that can be combined into wider curves, S shapes or circles. Others rent fixed pieces. Always check what is actually in stock before settling the layout.
Continuing with the 3.75 m and 60° example, for 100 guests:
- Outside only, at roughly 7 seats per piece: about 15 pieces.
- Both sides, at roughly 11 seats per piece: about 10 pieces.
Pieces are rented whole, so always round up — and allow one spare, which is easier to add than to explain.
